Trevor, Ruth and Hayden operate the family business with the help of three other funeral directors on staff.

Robert Cotton (Bob) established Robert J. Cotton & Sons Ltd. in 1967, starting in a small site on Tremaine Avenue, Palmerston North. In the early years he was helped out by his eldest son Trevor, and younger son Ross, who both were working at a local joinery firm. When Robert passed away suddenly in 1972, Trevor took over the family business with the help of his wife Ruth.

In 1984, Robert J. Cotton & Sons Ltd. moved from the Tremaine Avenue premises to a larger, purpose built premises on Main Street.

In 1991, the Terrace Lounge was built on a site purchased on Broadway Avenue, at the back of the Main Street premises. This site was previously a car wash.

A further upgrade to the business was the extension to the Terracehaven Chapel which was completed in 1999.

We believe our job as a funeral director is one of the world's most rewarding, but yet challenging.

We value positive relationships with the people who entrust their loved ones into our care.
